Look up and you'll be in awe
"On your way" somewhere should not be rushed, remember to look up and enjoy the view.
I’m on my way to the metro station, I’m on my way to work, I’m on my way home, I’m on my way to yoga, I’m on my way to grab some quick groceries to cook for dinner, I’m on my way to meet a friend, I’m on my way… There are so many times a day when I am on my way to go do something — sometimes I’m entrenched in the thoughts I was having just before heading somewhere; sometimes I’m thinking about what I am going to do afterward. “On my way” becomes the time in between, the time you desperately want to reduce, because it doesn’t seem to be the main goal.
And then I look up.
— sometimes it’s the symmetry
— sometimes it’s the color
— sometimes it’s the combination of color and symmetry
Time really slows down in the moments when I look up.
You must’ve felt it too — when the sky is blue and you can’t help but smile; when you see sunshine on the wall of a building and you realize the sun is shining its warmth on your face too. Or the cloud is in a shape you think you can recognise and your inner curiosity starts pondering what it could be. Or the feeling of surprise when you catch the sunset that day without planning for it and instinctively you just want to pull out your camera and capture the moment. Or if you’re in a city like Hong Kong, then you’ll see skyscrapers with massive windows that reflect the color of the sky. Perhaps your city is located near a mountain, and you can see the mountain tops in the distance. Or it’s the shimmering lights of massive apartment buildings late at night that catches your eye — what a common view in Hong Kong. Even better — if you’re in a more historical city you may see shrines, temples, cathedrals, synagogues, churches, or mosques with glamorous structures that lasted hundreds and hundreds of years.
If you can’t recall feeling those moments yourself then you’ve certainly seen it on someone’s Instagram story — nature’s beauty and even man-made architectures leave us humans in awe. And the cool thing is, you can feel that awe intentionally, anytime. Anytime you’re on the way anywhere, just look up from your phone. And feel it. Feel the moment.
Please comment and share the little beauty that you’ve seen in your surrounding lately when you look up!
Love this so much. One of my favourite views in the morning "on my way" to work is seeing people loading up their grocery stores, people in the market meticulously setting up their wares for the day.
In addition to the sky and the patterns, I often look at people when I'm on my way to anywhere. Often, my eyes are searching for a recognizable face. Even if I may not be good friends with someone, just saying Hi to them is enough to make an "on the way" task into something more memorable.
